Tall antique French enameled biggin dates from 1910-1925. Enormously popular in their day, the biggin coffee pot was the first "filtered coffee" pot. Ground coffee beans were placed in the top section, filter lid was placed atop the filter section, and boiling water was poured over the grounds creating a rich hot coffee to be served to family and friends. Often placed on the stove to keep the coffee hot. This rare and lovely biggin is enameled in a soft blue with shading. The sides of the coffee pot and the filter section are decorated with a floral display of violets and forget-me-nots. Goose-neck spout and curved handle. Overall has minimal chipping of enamel (see pics); considered to be in excellent condition given its age! Clean interior; no rusting and water tight. Wonderful gloss to the enamel. Measures 14.5 inches tall with a base diameter of 5.75 inches. A lovely piece for your French decor! Will be shipped within the USA only, $25.
