Long before air-conditioning, Victorian homes in the East would open the windows for a breeze in the summer months; doors were held open with cast iron doorstops like thos one. A beautiful rare antique cast iron Basket of Flowers doorstop in original painted surface. Wonderful patina! The doorstop is unusual, in that it has an incised decorative back. The doorstop dates from the early 20th century (1900-30). The doorstop is in excellent condition structurally, with no breaks, cracks, chips, repairs, etc. and retains a wonderful, original painted surface. The doorstop's original painted surface does show typical wear, consistent with its age. No foundry markings; most likely made in Pennsylvania. Measures 8 5/8" tall 4 3/8" wide (flowers); base measures 4 1/4" wide and 2 1/8" deep (front to back). Heavy. Shipped within the USA only, $15.
